Artspace was holding an art exhibition to highlight the plight of asylum seekers in the community and to raise funds. It commissioned ideas that matter to design publicity posters with an aim of raising awareness of the event.
ideas that matter decided publicity materials for an event of this nature needed a sensitive and balanced touch. While we didn’t want to sensationalise and play on the plight of asylum seekers, we also didn’t want to go all out to portray an unrealistically hopeful portrait of their situation.
We decided on subtly edgy images that hinted at how the art exhibition brought a fresh perspective to issues. And then we overlaid the images with subdued colours to tone down the excitement a notch. The result was two posters that were suitably attention-raising without going overboard.
